In part one of the improving disaster response podcast, experts from Verizon, SES Government Solutions, and goTenna spoke with Ryan Schradin about how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting emergency responders. In part two, the experts explore how natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados, and wildfires may impact the coronavirus response and the technology that is available to these responders.
“Internally, we’re focusing on our networks and what we can do to help folks prepare for this,” said John Harris, Director of Federal Mobility Solutions with Verizon. “We have an entire team dedicated to being first on the scene – the Verizon Incident Response Team.” That team focuses on bringing the communications tools needed to help first responders do their work and citizens as they evacuate.
Today response teams are spread thin handling both the pandemic and natural disasters. The experts dove into how mobile mesh networks enable first responders to successfully do their jobs. To continue mission delivery, agencies and organizations should look to technologies that enable and empower – and the first step is communications.
