Engaging employees and giving back to the local community are noble goals for technology companies. As many leaders struggle to find the right mix of activities to sponsor and manage, Federal Technology Insider found a real life example of a Day of Service, a program that federal contractor AR Services rolled out to their employees to deliver the gift of time to their respective communities.
We had a chance to interview Mr. Jay McCargo, President and CEO of AR Services his colleague, Andrea Robinson, Human Resources Manager, to hear about their organization’s experience. They explained the reasons for starting the program, provided some examples of the ways employees embraced the program, and told us about some of the specific organizations their team members are passionate about supporting.
Mr. McCargo commented that the “Gift of time….given to organizations and people that our employees care about,” is the source of his support for the program. “We look at what touches (the employee’s) heart,” and “allows them to reflect inwardly.” The time donated by AR Services employees has impacted small local efforts, large national organizations, and the experiences of each individual employee.
Given the thousands of charitable organizations across the nation, we asked how AR Services identified specific opportunities for employee giving. “What we try to do is target organizations that our employees truly care about,” said Ms. Robinson.
