With IT modernization slated to be an ongoing priority in the federal sector, Oracle’s Cloud platform-as-a-service (PaaS) portfolio, which provides a complete development and deployment environment on top of cloud infrastructure, will increasingly serve as a mission-enabling solution. PaaS paves way for federal IT modernization.
This was the key theme of a recent Government Technology Insider podcast interview with Dave Pipes, Senior Solutions Architect at Affigent, where he also highlighted the true benefits of PaaS, as well as how it can leverage innovations such as AI.
“PaaS benefits IT modernization from both top-down and bottom-up perspectives,” said Pipes. “With IaaS usage, agencies are realizing that they need many people supporting their systems. With PaaS, they can streamline their middleware development, data flows, and even the operation of their IaaS environments. This reduces capital costs and increases security and flexibility.”
With regards to future-focused IT innovations such as machine learning and AI, PaaS will enable these technologies to function, as well as impact overall mission success.
“AI and other IT innovations such as predictive analytics are either built into modern tools and infrastructure or are run on the side of the enterprise,” added Pipes. “By building on these cutting-edge innovations that are built into cloud environments, PaaS can be a very valuable part of any IT modernization plan.”
