The Department of Defense (DoD) has a unique role related to public safety. Through its responsibilities for meeting the public safety needs on military bases in the U.S., it must always be ready for challenges associated with the evolving nature of threats, budget constraints, and the demand for rapid and effective response capabilities.
By working with industry partners to further integrate innovative technologies into its operations, the DoD can further meet these public safety needs. For example, cutting-edge solutions at military installations, such as rapidly deployable 4G and 5G prioritized communications, can help address public safety challenges effectively, especially in remote areas. With such rapidly deployable technologies, the DoD can better improve coverage and communication capabilities in support of public safety.
In this new podcast – Meeting Public Safety Needs for the Department of Defense – Tetoya Gibson, Retired Air Force, DoD Crisis Response Manager at Verizon Frontline; and Calvin Jackson, Crisis Response Manager, Northeast at Verizon Frontline, shared insights into how the DoD can better meet current and future public safety challenges.
“Military bases are communities that need continuity of communications, the ability to maintain situational awareness, as well as achieve interoperability,” said Jackson. “Continued collaboration between private industry and public safety will be critical as technology continues to advance at an accelerated pace. Understanding the evolving challenges facing public safety will ensure that the right solutions will be developed to meet those needs.”
