Federal agencies are enjoying a golden era of IT.
Well, sort of.
The flexibility and opportunities that have come about as agencies have moved to the cloud and adopted as-a-Service models the costs of doing business have fallen, the opportunity to streamline operations and focus on the mission, and the ability to offer more services to constituents and citizens have grown. However, this cloud-based model comes with its own challenges.
As Debbie Stephens, Deputy Chief Information Officer, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, shared in a recent conversation with Federal News Radio’s Tom Temin, there are many decisions for agencies to make about where data resides. Said Stephens: “Our journey is engulfed in data that we have to hold private for a certain amount of time … once it’s past that 18 months and/or issued as patent, then that data becomes publicly available. So our strategy is clearly focused on… data ownership, … understanding the relationship between the data and technical fit multi-cloud, or on-prem …”
Just as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office faces these complex relationships with data most agencies face the challenge of moving data within and between legacy on-prem storage solutions with private and public clouds, with the intent to ensure that data is stored, analyzed, and available for use efficiently, cost-effectively, and with the appropriate levels of data protection. But while this is the goal, a multi-cloud strategy often comes with challenges of orchestration, governance, and access control across multi-cloud environments.
For agencies struggling with these challenges, ViON’s Rob Davies and Cloudbolt’s Rick Kilcoyne have teamed up to address the most challenging parts of operating a multi-cloud environment. On Wednesday, May 13th, 2020 at 2pm EST, Rob and Rick will share their best practices and strategies to mitigate the complexity of operating a multi-cloud environment and ease the cloud management burden, all specifically tailored for a federal government audience.
With these strategies in hand agencies will be able to increase their agility and accelerate their digital transformation journey at a time when it’s needed the most.
