The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has taken a unique approach to modernization by pursuing the Executive Orders on cybersecurity and customer experience as a singular objective, rather than two separate goals. Several DHS agencies are high-impact service providers that interact with millions of constituents daily. Because of its diverse mission, the DHS must prioritize the physical and digital security of the nation while optimizing customer interactions and experiences to meet the mission. In a recent interview with WashingtonExec, John Mandell, Managing Director and National Security Practice Leader at Maximus, discussed how the DHS can use artificial intelligence (AI) to prioritize cybersecurity and optimize customer experiences.
“[The] DHS has the opportunity to harness AI to improve its own operations and mission results,” Mandell explained. “[The] DHS can use AI as part of its modernization to deploy secure software in their environments, promote [equitable access through] greater use forms available on mobile devices for those who do not have access to a computer, and also operators in the field who need technology to assist [with and] enable their mission outcomes.”
