The Department of Defense (DoD) must maintain a high level of training and readiness both in and out of the field. One way to help maintain such readiness is by leveraging augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) training technologies.

With the help of 5G, AR and VR technologies could enable wide-ranging use cases that provide a higher level of flexibility and allow the DoD workforce to be better connected for training, maintenance, better retention and more.

These were the key themes in this fourth installment of the 5G Use Cases for the DoD podcast series on Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality Training, where Jad Muntasser, 5G Product Manager for Public Sector with Verizon, and Kelly Malone, Chief Customer Officer with Taqtile, discuss this topic further.

“There are challenges the DoD faces, as do many people with understanding the different kinds of learners that you are dealing with when it comes to training,” said Muntasser. “The ability to adopt AR to allow different types of learners – from using paper to using PowerPoint –  to use the same technology to get the information onboarded in a fashion that is easiest for them to understand is critical. For those who need to learn hands-on, they are able to be directed through the AR headset and to touch those things that make them understand the concepts better.”
