According to Dave Bartoletti, Principal Analyst in IT Infrastructure and Virtualization at Forrester Research there is no end in sight to the rapid adoption of public, private, and hybrid cloud environments. Government agencies have been quick to embrace private clouds as a way to reduce costs and improve efficiencies both in the delivery of IT services and in the workplace as a whole. But are agencies really make the most out of the services they have purchased?
Without a well structured infrastructure agencies will not be able to maximize the benefits that cloud deployments can provide and end up simply extend a virtualized environment. While this is not necessarily a bad option, the agency will be failing to fully utilize their investment and optimize performance, and also miss out on some important opportunities to increase IT’s value to the delivery of the agency’s mission.
