Top-notch cybersecurity is a given for every agency. But rapid changes in technology and techniques – on the part of both the government and threat agents – make it difficult to stay ahead of bad actors.

“As we start looking at the continuum of security — getting that visibility, having a good reaction plan when you start seeing things that don’t belong — all of those come down to preparing, just like if you were doing a disaster recovery drill.”

—Steve LeFrancois, CTO, Verizon Public Sector Group

For the Government Technology Insider podcast, we talked with Steve Lefrancois, CTO of Verizon’s Public Sector group. He explained that while compliance with standards is the typical approach to security, the compliance model frequently leads to “checkbox security” that leaves too many vulnerabilities across the enterprise… including the supply chain.

Add to that the continuing issue of insider threats, and government CIOs and CISOs need to look at new models, new technologies, and new ways to think about security through a holistic lens.

Listen to Steve’s insights and recommendations below.
